Kenwood TS-2000

All Mode Multiband Transceiver

Kenwood TS2000 TransceiverKenwood's top-of-the-range TS-2000 All-Band All-Mode Transceiver exceeds all expectations and represents a breakthrough in HF performance. Its sophisticated, solidly reliable and superbly suited for the new millennium.

The TS-2000 transceiver covers the HF/50/144/440 bands (plus 1200MHz with the optional module UT-20), SSB, CW, FSK, FM and AM modes. with output of up to 100W (430MHz 50W; 1200MHz: 10W)

It is equipped with independent 144/440MHz sub-band reception (AM/FM modes only) thus simultaneous reception on two bands is possible - HF by V/U. V by V, U by U and V by U. A typical application might be to listen to 144/440MHz at the same time as using HF

The transceiver is equipped with an IF DSP for for main-band use and AF DSP for sub-bands. TS-870 technology has been adopted for allmode applications - VHF as well as HF The combination of digital filters and IF DSP slope tuning results in enhanced versatility.

With digital IF AGC (controlling IF gain via DSP) it is possible to set the time constant separately for each mode. Also, the IF auto-notch function makes it easy to remove interference while automatically tracking with DSP-based adaptive filtering.

Additionally, the AF stage beat canceller is capable of eliminating multiple beats at the same time manual operation (manual notch for dealing with a single wave) is also permitted, which is convenient for CW use.

For noise reduction there is a choice of NR1 (line enhancer. ideal for SSB. and Kenwood's original NR2 (SPAC), popular among CW operators. As with the TS-570. the operator can make use of CW auto-tuning.

For packet there is a built-in TNC which uses Kenwood's own 2-chip TNC (1200/9600bpsi This enables sophisticated data communications (excluding APRS) i e packet information to be displayed on the LCD Moreover, this data can be used for automatic tuning although it is not possible to connect with a node station using the internal modem DX cluster information received on a sub-band can be used instantly for the main-band setting thus giving the DX operator an advantage when tracking sought-after stations.

Other features include, a built-in automatic antenna tuner (HF/50MHz) with preset memory control. Autotracking satellite functions (crossmode compatible) using IF DSP

The TS-B2000 without front control panel is controlled from a PC using the provided Kenwood ARCP soft^^;are Another control method is via the optional RC2000 mobile controller In fact the TS-2000 can be controlled in the same way if required. Performance-wise they are the same.

The optional UT-20 module enables operation on the 23cm band (1200MHz) This module can only be installed by a qualified technician.

Other optional extras available for fitting inside the TS2000 are the DRU-3A Digital Recording Unit the VS-:> Voice Synthesizer Unit.

There is no need to purcri,ce optional filters, as digital IF filters are available for each -de offering performance superior to anything possible with analogue circuitry.

For those who are used to Tx Audio shaping. there are 3 ways to tailor the audio quality with DSP. the Tx/Rx equaliser (SSB/FM/AM) Tx filter bandwidth (SSB/AM), and speech processor (SSBIFM/AM). The Tx/Rx equaliser offers 4 frequency response settings on SSB. FM and AM high boost ferment pass. bass boost and conventional mode for an 'analogue sound . On SSB and AM transmit you can choose between 6 Tx filter bandwidth settings according to your microphone and operating requirements. The speech processor works across three bands (SSB, FM and AM) for high compression and minimal distortion.
